Janssen Research Team Wins Inventor Award
The European Patent Office named Drs. Koen Andries and Jérôme Guillemont and their research team the 2014 winner of the prestigious 9th annual European Inventor Award. From a group of 15 prestigious finalists, Janssen’s very own team brings home the top honor for the discovery of a new compound now approved in multiple markets to treat pulmonary multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) as part of combination therapy in adults.
Dr. Koen Andries, a Distinguished Research Fellow at Janssen, co-led the research behind the discovery of this new MDR-TB compound with French Chemist, Dr. Jérôme Guillemont. The team, which created the compound following years of scientific research, is also comprised of fellow researchers Imre Csoka, Laurence F.F. Marconnet-Decrane, Frank C. Odds, Jozef F.E. Van Gestel, Marc Venet and Daniel Vernier.
This achievement marks the value of Janssen-led research in improving global public health. Our Company’s leadership has always championed the search for new solutions to treat patients with significant unmet needs. This unwavering passion has helped Janssen make important contributions in many areas, including MDR-TB.
