Janssen showcases research in Crohn’s disease at United European Gastroenterology (UEG) Week 2015

The Janssen Immunology team is looking forwad to presenting research on Crohn’s disease for the first time in Europe at the 23rd Annual United European Gastroenterology (UEG) Week 2015 in Barcelona, Spain. Over 14,000 people from across the world will attend UEG Week as it is the largest platform in Europe to discuss digestive diseases. The meeting provides a unique stage to learn about the latest advances in clinical management and new research in gastroenterology and liver diseases.

Nearly 250,000 Europeans are living with Crohn’s disease one of the most common forms of inflammatory bowel disease, and there is currently no cure. , There are limited treatment options for patients diagnosed with the disease, so it is vital that alternative treatments are available to help improve patient outcomes.

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, most often in the end of the small bowel (ileum) or the beginning of the large bowel (colon), but may involve any part from the mouth to the anus. , It is marked by an abnormal response from the immune system to food, bacteria and other materials in the intestine.4 Medications are used to alleviate inflammation and reduce symptoms and surgery may become necessary when medications can no longer control symptoms or other complications arise. Up to 75% of patients with CD will require surgery at some point during their lives.6

Janssen is continually investing in research to provide targeted treatments for patients with chronic conditions, to help improve their quality of life. We aim to provide new hope and better health for people and their families living with immune and inflammatory diseases, such as Crohn’s, as we build upon our existing discoveries in psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.
