Combating Neglected Tropical Diseases
“Uniting to Combat Neglected Tropical Diseases: A Conversation on Progress” is another initiative supported by The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation bringing together relevant parties to discuss progress made in the global elimination of ten neglected tropical diseases by 2020. The event took place on 2 April 2014 at the Institut Pasteur in Paris.
The London Declaration on Neglected Tropical Diseases is now more than two years old and the Paris event will focus on how the promises made in 2012 are being met. A status report on neglected tropical diseases will be presented. The event will include panel discussion with the participation of, among others:
- Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General, World Health Organisation
- Dr Tim Evans, Director for Health, Nutrition and Population, World Bank
- Bill Gates, Co-Chair, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
The webcast and live Question & Answer session will be available on the Uniting to Combat NTDs website and broadcast from 17.00-18.30 GMT.
Janssen’s Paul Stoffels, Worldwide Chairman, Pharmaceuticals Johnson & Johnson as well as Alex Gorsky, Chief Executive Officer of Johnson & Johnson will also be engaging in the discussions around this event in Paris. Janssen, through its parent company Johnson & Johnson is part of the alliance of pharmaceutical companies, development agencies, endemic countries, research organisations and private foundations that collaborate to meet the goals of the The London Declaration.
Janssen’s and Johnson & Johnson’s contributions to the program include donations of medicines for the treatment of intestinal worms such as soil-transmitted helminthes.
